Exterior is white with gray non-skid.
Heavy hand-laid fiberglass hull construction. Vinylester resins used in the outer layers to help prevent blistering. Integral grid structure is designed to provide a very sturdy hull with little flexing, as evidenced by the nearly total absence of gel coat cracks around the boat.
Retractable radar mast – minimum bridge clearance less than 13’.
All handrails are of double-rung design for safety, and are welded and beautifully polished.
Window frames are powder coated aluminum. Some areas of flaking powder coating are evident -- this may be effectively and economically repaired by a marine painter.
Deck hardware is sturdy and high-quality stainless steel with no corrosion and little evidence of staining.

Boarding astern is from the sturdy swim platform though the transom door. The covered cockpit is large enough for several deck chairs. The heavily-built wide sliding aft cabin door provides entry to the full-beam saloon, which is much larger than would be expected in a boat this size. The galley is starboard and features custom Corian countertops and breakfast bar seating with two chairs. The stainless-steel faced refrigerator/freezer is a NovaKool, and the galley range is a Force 10.
To port is the convertible L-shaped dinette, storage cabinet and entertainment center. Just forward and down is the day head -- complete with shower capability. A curtain enclosure allows the entire port side of the salon to be converted to a private suite (including private head) for guests.
The pilothouse is just two steps up from the salon and is not isolated as on many other pilothouse models. The L-shaped dinette allows three or four guests to enjoy the pilothouse while underway. The dinette converts to a single pilot berth. The helm station is to starboard, and features a sliding leather-covered helm seat with a moveable bolster for leaning if desired. Forward visibility from the helm station is excellent, and because of the low pilothouse design it's possible to view the aft quarters directly from the helm seat also (unusual in a pilothouse model). Sliding pilothouse doors port and starboard allow easy access to the dock, the foredeck or to the flybridge.
Footwells with high bulwarks provide security when exiting the pilothouse, and the wide, full-size steps to the flybridge make access safe and easy. It's a great boat for those with dogs! There are no vertical ladders on this boat.
The master cabin has a queen bed, hanging lockers port and starboard, six storage drawers, two storage cabinets, and separate head and shower compartments.
The flybridge has two pedestal helm seats and an L-shaped settee. As with the entire exterior of the boat, the design of the flybridge is uncluttered and intended to be simple to maintain and easy to clean.
Cabin heat is provided by a Hurricane diesel-fired hydronic heating system. And for fresh air this boat has nine opening windows (including an opening windshield window), five opening stainless steel portlights, and two overhead hatches.
A Cathville chest freezer is located in the machinery space below the salon.
Toilets are Dometic Masterflush heads.

The boat is configured with a manual davit crane which can be installed on the boat deck -- suitable for hoisting an inflatable dinghy or kayaks to the top deck. It is not in current use and has been removed but will be included with the boat, and can be easily installed on either the port or starboard side.

These boats are well-built and this one clearly illustrates the longevity that comes from solid construction, quality materials, and an owner's attentive care.
Originally imported and sold as a Mariner Yachts International 37 Seville Pilothouse, this model is the predecessor to the current Helmsman Trawlers 38 Pilothouse and is dimensionally equal. Its Hull Identification Number identifies it as a Mariner.
The interior is spacious and richly nautical. This boat gives the impression of being much larger than its size implies -- the salon offers more comfortable living space than most 45 foot vessels. The second day head and the adjacent convertible dinette create a private suite for when guests are aboard, and the extended pilothouse actually serves as a comfortable living area in addition to its piloting function. This boat has a custom galley configuration with quality appliances, extensive counter space, and a breakfast bar for two. The flybridge provides a great view and room for a sizable social event. Many large opening windows, two opening hatches, and three opening portholes create a bright and well-ventilated interior. Additional features include newer Garmin navigation electronics at both helms, Hurricane hydronic heating system, a solar panel system, and leather upholstery. A stern thruster has also been added to complement the original bow thruster.
With her Cummins QSB 5.9 litre 230 hp engine she performs frugally at 7 or 8 knots, and has additional power when needed.
These boats required many many labor hours to build, much of it detailed hand work. Along with the abundant use of solid woods and other quality materials it's a remarkable value for a sturdy, trawler-yacht. The quality of materials and construction are evident with teak and holly floors, beautiful teak joinery, heavy fittings and rails, sturdy deck sections, and thick engine compartment sound insulation. Compare this boat to a Nordic Tug 37 or 39, or to an American Tug 34, 365, or 395. You'll find that the Helmsman is roomier, has a more finely-crafted interior, and is built to a very high standard.
The hull is solidly built, and its design has proven to be very capable for long-range coastal cruising.
