Sometimes, a yacht broker can be minding his own business getting on with an ordinary day when he gets a call from a sailing magazine saying they’re looking to feature a nice sailing boat in their next issue. At least that’s what happened to Peter Delbridge from Boatshed Hamble last month.

We often get asked if any of the owners of yachts for sale with Boatshed Hamble International yacht Brokers would like to make them available for a used boat test, to feature in the “Sailing Today” magazine. Last Friday saw Peter & Michael Delbridge of BSH taking out the “Sailing Today” photographer Rod in the Boatshed Hamble Rib to photograph a lovely Oyster 49 Pilot House that is coming on the market shortly with Boatshed Hamble and will feature in their March issue. On board was Toby Heppell their News and Features Writer as well as the owner.

The Upper Reaches Of The River Hamble.

The Upper Reaches Of The River Hamble.

Monday, 28 May 2012

It always surprises me that when I speak to people with boats on the River Hamble and those that live close to it, how many have never travelled further up-river than Bursledon bridge or at most the M27 bridge. Ok, if you have a yacht or sailing dinghy that you can not step the mast you are not going to get past Bursledon bridge, but for all others, navigation is possible especially on a rising spring tide. How far can you go? Well for canoes and dinghies you can get as far as the Horse and Jockey pub and the bridge on the A3051 at Curbridge on the Eastern branch of the river, and the village of Botley on the Western branch. These two creeks are only accessible on high tides and it is best to travel up about an hour before first high and then the moment you see the water level start to drop, head back down river asap because its like a giant plug being pulled out and you don’t want to be sitting at the pub for another twelve hours, or do you! There are plenty of places to land and pick nick as well as dropping the hook for larger vessels. Look out for deer and other wildlife along the banks as well as King Fishers, Herons and Egrets. The kids are still trying to spot the legendry “Hippocrocadonk” that is reported to live in the reeds in the upper reaches of the Hamble!!!

Powerboat & Rib show 2012

Powerboat & Rib show 2012

Monday, 14 May 2012

RIBEX has been renamed The Powerboat and RIB Show , the event has been staged for the last 13 years in Weymouth, Southampton and, until this year, Cowes, under the name of RIBEX. As well as being held at prestigious Portsmouth venue, Gunwharf Quays, for the first time over the weekend of 12th and 13th May, the exhibition featured powerboats of every description, making it the only show representing the entire powerboat market under 45ft. It was also completely free for visitors, making it much more accessible and the only free outdoor, on the water boat show in the UK. The new venue was a great benefit to visitors, who were able to take advantage of Gunwharf Quays’ many shops, restaurant and entertainment venues while they were at the show. Among the attractions there was a wide selection of RIBs, powerboats and associated products for sale, and the opportunity to trial boats on the open water and free RIB rides. Michael Delbridge and his young son Justin (Broker in training) of www.boatshedhamble.com were on hand to check on any new boats and to talk to clients old and new. You can contact Peter or Michael Delbridge about buying or selling a Rib here :

What has been known for years as the "Dog House" and then for a short period as "Valshedas" which closed earlier in the year has now risen from the ashes as a great waterside cafe / bar with great views across the River Hamble. Good service, good food and value for money is what Peter Delbridge of www.boatshedhamble.com has to say about it. Just look at my pictures and the current menu.
