Broker's Comments

Currently owned by a very competent shipwright and engine fitter who, with his wife, has lived aboard and cruised Freya for the last three years, this little ship has an interesting history. Built in 1943 at Freest in eastern Germany, she was to fish the Baltic and Helgoland under engine power for fifty years. Retired from fishing she was purchased by a Dutchman who spent almost ten years refitting her in Holland and then used her as a sailing charter boat. During her extensive re-fit he replaced everything, including some frames, planks, deck, deck-house, engine, generator - the list goes on. A Dutch naval architect designed the rig and appropriate ballast (line drawings and rig calculations are held with the vessel) and she was coded for work as a charter boat - indeed she only requires upgrade of safety equipment to satisfy re-coding requirements. Her present owner - a committed 'work boat' enthusiast who has owned several similar 'Little Ships' has used her for live-aboard cruising since his purchase in 2013. As our photographs show, successive owners have continued to maintain her in proper fashion, replacing timbers as required. So, here's the question; are you tired of cloned plastic boats? Do you have the urge to own a proper piece of maritime heritage? We await your call!

NOTE: Further photographs will be taken of her interior in the next couple of weeks, when her owners return from abroad.
